Riiiiight. I did get a <a href="http://www.bautforum.com/showthread.php?p=671038#post671038" rel="nofollow">quick peek at the Moon</a> last evening, but the conditions were abysmal. Oh, of course — I was drooling over the possibilities for nature photography more than anything else. There are plenty of birds, deer, and other critters I’d love to capture in my mini-wild-kingdom. :)

I did get a quick peek at the Moon last evening, but the conditions were abysmal.

I don't have a telescope I can use for astrophotography (funny when I use a 1.8-m regularly on Kitt Peak, eh?), though I did use my friend's telescope last month for a few pix..... Maybe I should get a teleconverter - that will help a little..... 300mm is not quite enough focal length to really get the Moon right - just enough to whet the appetite, but not quite enough. Mmm, 70-300. Wish I had that kind of reach... it's downright crippling not being able to shoot past 50mm. The second lens on my shopping list is Canon's 70-200mm f/2.8 L (non-IS). It's a really outstanding piece of glass, but (predictably) pricy. The 24-70 f/2.8 L will have to come first. Copycat. :P

I used my 70-300 zoom to get a shot fo the Earthshine while you shot the crescent moon in twilight. It really was pretty last night (though we didn't have any significant clouds to accompany the moon, so astronomically, my sunset was prettier... :-P ). Oh, by the way, nice pictures!
