Titan in False Color

Compiled from Titan fly-bys on Oct. 28, 2005, Dec. 26, 2005, and Jan. 15, 2006, the Cassini team has released three new looks at Saturn’s largest and most enigmatic moon, making the most of the spacecraft’s visual and infrared mapping spectrometer (VIMS).

The first, and my personal favorite of the three, is animated: An Infrared Movie of Titan.

The mosaic image above comes from Mapping Titan’s Changes (center), which illustrates some of Titan’s rather dynamic features.

Lastly, you may view a new global infared surface map here.

Great stuff.
