Earthshine
03Mar06
On certain nights
When the angles are right
And the Moon is a slender crescent
It’s circle shows
In a ghostly glow
Of Earthly luminescence

The 3.5-day-old Moon lingers above the trees in my backyard.

That’s nice.
That photo looks a lot like the view of the moon from my front garden last night.
I was going to try to improve on that this evening but clouds decided otherwise. Grumble.
So much for me seeing that comet. The weather hasn’t been cooperating on Saturday nights lately. I guess I’ll have to amuse myself some other way…
Same here. I’ve yet to have a chance at Pojmanski.
Really nice composition here, over the trees. I can even see some stars!
Really great information and photo, i have a question, when we say that earth is shining, it means earth reflecting more light from its surface to the outer side, when the light fall on the earth’s surface more execessive, or it is due to the green house effect, or it is just due to mass cutting forests worldwide, the light cannot be absorb on earth and the same we feels that earth is shining more better than the previous, or it is a sort of abnormality from earth’s point of view. ?
sunil
Oh no, nothing to do with the greehouse effect. Earthshine is sunlight reflecting off of the Earth onto the Moon (and back).
