Serenity, Tranquility

Observing conditions last night weren’t very good, but that didn’t dissuade me from snapping a few images.

The above shot centers upon the Sea of Serenity (left) and the Sea of Tranquility (right).

These images were taken afocally with my 10″ Dobsonian, 13mm Nagler T6, Canon 20D & 50mm prime.

Below: the Sea of Nectar is visible just above and to the right of one of my favorite crater trios (Theophilus, Cyrillus & Catharina).

Slightly different perspective

Wow, that’s so cool! You can almost touch it. Great photo’s!
You know when I was a teenager I was into telescopes…
    I had a 4″ refractor, and a 6″ reflector, it was a lot of fun…

well, the photo is quite nice, infact moon is just increasing the beauty of night sky with a spacious stars aside with moon, the calm light and the cool air, moon looks quite amazing from the surface of earth. but you are showing the surface of moon, that’s funtastic one. in other word moon is looking here the “art work of plaster of paris” :)

very nice photo, I have no perfect word to increase its beauty, it is already beautiful,

Wonderful images! And of course as an Apollo geek, I’m looking at the margin of Mare Serenitatis at the dark mare material between the north and south massif where Apollo 17 landed…..

Lunar shots like these fascinate me. The Moon looks like it’s made out of gray putty.
    Nice photography Wolverine!

Very nice and clear. I use my book which labels every part of the moon with its Latin names. Have to tilt my book around–it’s fun comparing and helps to get it straight. So many names! Darn craters are so plentiful.

What makes a crater trio a favorite to you? Just their natural design? Familiarity?

There were a couple of long articles on the moon mission in my paper. Eventually the plan is to keep the astronauts there for 6-month stints. I wish I could go. Since I was too young for the Apollo missions, the idea of looking at the moon and imagining people cruising around on it is just so amazing. Your photos heighten that feeling. :-)

That particular triplet of craters is just aesthetically pleasing to me… probably highlighted by the fact that they stand out in such contrast to the surrounding terrain. Just one of many favorites. :)
