Ahha, just what I've been looking for -- Neil Tyson has weighed in on the latest episode of Point of Inquiry.

[...] After reading through the details, I rather prefer this to the original draft proposal unveiled last week. I suspect it still has problems, but perhaps fewer complications. I’m only confident of two things here, though: 1) all bets are off come this Thursday when the final vote takes place; 2) I’m really glad it’s not my job to determine what is or is not a planet. While it’s all too easy to snipe from the comfort of my monitors’ glow, hammering out these ground rules is no simple task. [...]

[...] It appears that the festivities are getting rather interesting in Prague as astronomers attending the IAU’s XXVIth General Assembly continue trying to hammer out what exactly constitutes a planet. (See my previous entry for more details.) [...]

Yet again, some astronomers go into the realms of pseudo-science to make ammo for the real pseudo-scientists of the ID movement. o_O

I've been hoping to see Neil Tyson comment on the IAU proposal. Come to find out (courtesy of the BA Blog) he appeared yesterday on The Colbert Report -- which yielded this comedic exchange.

Great stuff. :)
